What is fax number porting?
Fax number porting moves your existing fax number from your current provider to GoFax. You keep the same number, so nothing changes for the people who fax you. Once the port is complete, your faxes arrive by email, online or in the GoFax app instead of on a fax machine. Most ports are finished within 1 to 3 weeks.

How to port your fax number to GoFax
It's easy to transfer your number to GoFax. You provide the details, we submit the port to your current provider and keep you updated.
1. Check your number can move
Ask your current provider if your number can be ported. Check the line has no other services on it, such as EFTPOS, HICAPS, internet, phone or security alarms.
2. Sign up and choose a plan
Create your GoFax account and choose a Receive or Bundle plan. Select "port my existing fax number" and pick a temporary number to use while the port runs.
3. Send your Porting Authority form
Download the form, complete it and send it back. We then submit the port request to your provider.

The Porting Authority form gives GoFax permission to ask your current provider to move your number. To avoid delays and rejection fees:
Use the address where the fax line is installed. PO Boxes are not accepted.
Tell us if the line carries other services, such as EFTPOS, internet, phone, HICAPS or security systems.
Tell us if any number is a complex port (see below), so we can plan for it.
Simple or complex port: how long it takes
Your carrier decides the port type based on how your number is set up.
Simple port (CAT A): a single fax number on a standard phone line or standalone connection, with no other services attached. Most ports are simple, and they usually take 1 to 3 weeks.
Complex port (CAT C): numbers on ISDN, number ranges, line hunts (several lines behind one number), some virtual fax numbers, and numbers on Optus Loop or Telstra DOT. These can take longer, up to 120 days in the worst case.
While you wait, use your temporary GoFax number and ask your current provider to divert faxes to it.

Porting charges may vary depending on the number configuration with your current provider.
Additional fees apply for ‘Complex Porting’ (CAT C) configurations, including but not limited to existing virtual fax numbers, numbers within a number range and numbers in a line hunt.
Porting Rejection fees apply for any carrier ‘rejected’ fax number porting order. Rejection reasons may be due to, but are not limited to, the number setup, number restrictions, carrier configuration or incorrect information supplied.

GoFax was easy to set-up and use. I needed to fax tax documents to the US from NZ. GoFax did the trick. It took me less than 40 minutes from researching online fax software to getting my fax sent confirmations. 100 pages for A$15, highly recommended and great value, only problem now is what to do with remaining 96 pages!

Amazing service
Administation is easy - was able to create an email group, populate it, and then advertise that as the desitination for incoming faxes. The sender didn't know the difference! Furthermore, I was able to integrate into the scanning feature of the printer. All the user does is scan their page, creates a PDF and sends off the fax direct from the printer. The users love it and although we get plenty of messages about maintenance an updates, we have never had any problems using GoFax.

Fax number porting questions
Yes, in most cases. GoFax can port fax numbers from most carriers in Australia, New Zealand and over 50 other countries. It depends on your current provider and how your number is set up, so check with them first. GoFax cannot port numbers from NetSIP or Virtutel. For New Zealand and international ports, contact us for pricing.
Most ports are simple and are completed within 1 to 3 weeks. Complex ports can take longer, up to 120 days in the worst case, depending on your carrier and number type.
Yes. When you sign up, you choose a temporary GoFax number. Ask your current provider to divert faxes to it until the port is complete, so you do not miss anything.
Your current provider can reject a port, for example if the service is complex or disconnected. We tell you the reason they give. Most issues can be fixed with your provider and the port sent again. A $20.00 rejection fee applies each time.
Your service with your current provider ends once the port is complete. Check that no other services, such as EFTPOS, internet or a security alarm, rely on that line before you port. Cancel any other plans with that provider yourself.
Yes. Porting a 13, 1300 or 1800 number to GoFax costs $30.00 per number.
Yes. Your number stays yours while it is with GoFax. Moving a 13, 1300 or 1800 number from GoFax to another provider costs $110.00 per number.
